Four Swimmers, Two Divers Added to Academic All-WAC Team
DENVER, Colo. – Sophomore transfer Gwen Smithberg and freshmen Alexis Juergens, Kali Lents, Emily Lewandowski, Meagan Morrison, and Caitlin Wright have been added to the Academic All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) team, the conference announced. The six additions qualified for the team after completing the spring semester and the requisite one academic year at their institution.
The pair of divers (Lents and Smithberg) and the quartet of swimmers (Juergens, Lewandowski, Morrison, and Wright) met the other requirements for inclusion on the Academic All-WAC team during the 2011-12 season. Those requirements include having at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and having participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests, with the additions needing to complete their first academic year at NAU to officially qualify.
The six additions bring NAU's total to 20 Academic All-WAC selections for the 2011-12 season. After posting a team GPA of 3.44 during the Fall semester, the squad outdid itself in the Spring, recording a program-record 3.52 team GPA. The semester GPA was the highest team GPA of all NAU teams since golf in Fall 2006 (3.55) with seven students totaling perfect 4.00 semester GPA's, including Juergens who has a 4.00 cumulative GPA through one academic year.
