FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU junior swimmer Rachel Palmer has been selected as a Capital One Academic All-District 8 Women's At-Large First Team selection. As a first team selection Palmer will be placed on a ballot for Capital One Academic All-America honors.

The Capital One Academic All-District Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Student-athletes from several women's sports, including swimming & diving, golf, and tennis, were eligible for the At-Large awards based on significant athletic and academic achievements. Gymnast Caitlin Kennedy of Southern Utah was the only other female Big Sky student-athlete to receive the honor.

Palmer has been among NAU's top performers both in the pool and in the classroom throughout her career as she holds a 3.96 cumulative GPA majoring in health sciences – public health with a minor in psychology. She is a three-time Academic All-WAC selection and a three-time Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete award recipient as well as a two-time nominee for Academic All-District honors.

She also placed fourth in the 400 IM with an NCAA 'B' time of 4 minutes, 18.36 seconds.

Palmer was named the NAU Female Athlete of the Year in 2012 after totaling three gold medals with three All-WAC first team honors and one second team honor at the 2012 WAC Championships. In three seasons she has totaled four WAC titles with five All-WAC first team honors and four second team honors while leading NAU to second place finishes at the conference meet in each of the last two seasons.
