NAU Athletics Celebrates 42 Student-Athlete Graduates This Weekend
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – In total, 42 Northern Arizona University student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend during the Spring 2015 commencement ceremonies held on campus yesterday and today. Including the 21 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2014 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 63 graduates for the 2014-15 academic year.

A Night to Remember: 2015 Louie's Awards
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Wednesday night at Prochnow Auditorium, the NAU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the second annual Louie’s Awards, a night for Lumberjack student-athletes, coaches, administration and staff to sit back, relax and remember the 2014-15 academic year.

Huffman Named Inaugural Recipient of Outstanding Student Success Coach Award
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – A six-time conference Diving Coach of the Year known for leading one of the most competitive diving programs in the western United States, Northern Arizona diving coach Nikki Huffman has also been a leader and mentor for many other NAU students. On Friday, Huffman was rewarded for her work outside of the pool as the inaugural recipient of the Outstanding Student Success Coach by NAU's University College during the Undergraduate Symposium in the Walkup Skydome.

Swim & Dive Inks Logan Neal, 2015-16 Signee, to NLI
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – What was once considered a thin area of depth as recent as last year, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team bolstered their sprint freestyle crew with the National Letter of Intent signing of Logan Neal. Head coach Andy Johns announced the signing of Neal, a Hillsboro, Ore. product, on Wednesday.

NAU Swimming Duo Gains Experience at Arena Pro Swim Series Meet
MESA, Ariz. – Northern Arizona swimming & diving sophomore Urte Kazakeviciute and freshman Alina Staffeldt competed as unattached competitors at last week's Arena Pro Swim Series Mesa at the Skyline Aquatic Center. The pair faced fierce competition in the star-studded four-day event which included a number of Olympic medalists from in the United States as well as overseas.

SEDONA, Ariz. – Stuart Scott, the late ESPN anchor, famously said at the 2014 ESPYs, "You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live." For 12-year Emma Warner, she lives by swimming and because of her passion for the pool she has continued to knock cancer right in the mouth without skipping a beat.

Hoover, Vang, Buzzard & Hasquet Honored as Golden Eagle Top Scholar-Athletes
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Wednesday, NAU’s brightest student-athletes were honored at the 37th annual Golden Eagle Awards held at the High Country Conference Center. The annual luncheon recognizes Northern Arizona University’s student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 191 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments.

'Jacks, Northern Arizona Community Come Together for Student-Athlete for a Day
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU Athletics Department, spearheaded by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), held its Student-Athlete for a Day on Tuesday for over 200 children throughout the northern Arizona region. The important Student-Athlete for a Day returned for the first time in three years and was a fun-filled day for both the Lumberjack student-athletes and the local youth.

Jackson & Geiger Post Strong Showings to Close Season
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving season came to an end on Tuesday with junior Chelsea Jackson and sophomore Alexa Geiger wrapping up the NCAA Zone E Diving Championship at the Air Force Academy. In Tuesday's 1-meter springboard competition, Jackson placed 15th overall while Geiger narrowly missed the finals and placed 27th in the preliminaries.

Jackson Places in 3-meter Finals to Open NCAA Zone Diving
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Chelsea Jackson advanced to the 3-meter finals on the first day of the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships and finished 18th overall for the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team. Sophomore Alexa Geiger placed 42nd in the preliminary round on Monday at the competition held at the Air Force Academy.

Jackson, Geiger Travels to Air Force for NCAA Zone Diving Championships
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Junior Chelsea Jackson and sophomore Alexa Geiger will vie for a spot in the NCAA Championships next Monday and Tuesday as the pair will represent the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team at the NCAA Zone E Diving meet. The Lumberjack duo will compete in a field of nearly 60 divers from around the region for a chance to extend their seasons even further at the national meet.

Staffeldt's Record Day Leads the Way as NAU Extends WAC Lead
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team stacked a total of 19 athletes into the Day 3 finals at the WAC Championships, but no result was bigger than freshman Alina Staffeldt's record breaking performance en route to winning the 100 butterfly. Behind Staffeldt's swim, the Lumberjacks will head into the final day of the championships one step closer to a conference repeat in first place with 478 points, ahead of New Mexico State who is at 383 points.

Jackson's 3-Meter Win Highlights WAC Day 2, 'Jacks Slide into First Place
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Junior Chelsea Jackson finally captured her elusive first individual WAC title to highlight Day 2 of the WAC Championships as the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team moved into first place in the team standings at the halfway point of the meet. Jackson's win on 3-meter earned the Flagstaff local her first career gold medal.

Divers Pace the Way to Second-Place Start at WAC Championships
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team felt they had the deepest group of divers in the Western Athletic Conference and that proved to be the case on the opening day of the 2015 WAC Championships. Junior Chelsea Jackson finished runner-up, her best career conference finish, in the 1-meter finals as NAU occupied half of the finals field. Behind the Lumberjack divers' performance, the team finished the day in second place with 89 points. Northern Colorado leads with 100 points.

Swimming & Diving Receives Scholar All-America Team Distinction
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On the eve of the 2015 WAC Championships, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team was honored as a 2014 Fall Scholar All-American Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The Lumberjacks posted a semester GPA of 3.50 for the fall semester which was tied for 17th in the country among the nation's swimming & diving programs.

Swim & Dive Starts Title Defense on Wednesday at WAC Championships
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – For years, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team were the hunters at the Western Athletic Conference Championships. This week, the Lumberjacks will be in a different position for the first time in school history. As the defending champions, NAU will instead be the hunted – the team with the target on its back – as it sets its sights on bringing back the hardware to Flagstaff for the second consecutive season.

Swimming & Diving Falls to Wyoming, Finishes Air Force Diving Invite
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. & LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team completed their regular season on Saturday with a dual meet against the University of Wyoming. The swimmers competed against the Cowgirls, as well as host UNLV in an unscored meet, in Las Vegas while the divers wrapped up competition at the Air Force Diving Invitational. Despite strong efforts in the pool and on the boards, NAU fell to a high quality Wyoming squad .

Jackson Leads NAU Diving on First Day at Air Force
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Chelsea Jackson was one of three Northern Arizona divers to capture season-best scores on platform at the Air Force Diving Invitational. In just the team's second – and final – appearance on platform this season before the WAC Championships, Jackson placed a team-best 12th in the event on Friday, the first of two days for NAU at the competitive invite.

Swim & Dive Victorious Over UNC, 142-93, in Home Finale
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team proved there's no place better than home as they cruised to a 142-93 victory over Northern Colorado on Wednesday, winning nine of the 11 scored events. Senior Caitlin Wright and freshman Claire Hammond each won a pair of events as the Lumberjacks won the first five events in a dominating performance in their first dual meet in the Wall Aquatic Center in a month.

Swim & Dive Returns Home, Hosts Northern Colorado Wednesday
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Since last competing at home on Dec. 6, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team has spent the last month well-traveled. From Las Vegas to San Diego to Tucson, the Lumberjacks have endured through two training camps, a three-day invitational and a pair of dual meets making their return home all the more welcomed. On Wednesday, NAU will host WAC opponent Northern Colorado in the Wall Aquatic Center at 4 p.m. in the team's final home meet of the season.

Swim & Dive Battles Tough in Losses to No. 14 Arizona, Oregon State
TUCSON, Ariz. – Facing far from ideal conditions, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team persevered and nearly posted an upset in their double dual versus No. 14 Arizona and Oregon State on Friday at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. The Lumberjacks were denied the victory against the Beavers as Oregon State rallied in the final two events to prevail 148-146 against a feisty NAU squad. NAU also fell to the Wildcats, 191-102.

Swim & Dive Picks Up Ninth Straight Win Over San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team completed their stay in Southern California with a 151-108 dual meet victory over the University of San Diego on Saturday, capping a productive week of training camp and ending the 2014 calendar year on a high note. The Lumberjacks won eight of the 14 events in posting their ninth straight dual win over the Torreros in the team's first meeting since the 2009-10 season.

Alexa Geiger Earns NAU's Second Straight WAC Weekly Diver Award

For her efforts this past weekend in Las Vegas at the UNLV Invitational, sophomore Alexa Geiger was named the conference's top diver marking the second Diver of the Week nod of her career.

NAU Wraps Up UNLV Invite in Third Place
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team capped a spectacular three days in Las Vegas at the UNLV Invitational on Monday, finishing third as a team with 616.5 points. The Lumberjack swimmers were paced by senior Alexis Juergens, who finished runner-up in the 200 fly, as well as a trio of athletes in the 1,650 freestyle top five.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Sophomore Alexa Geiger won the 3-meter competition and junior Kendall Brown led a strong showing for the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team in the 500 freestyle among the highlights of the Lumberjacks' first day at the UNLV Invitational. Swim & Dive Defeats WAC Foe New Mexico State on Senior Day
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team waited a while for their first home dual meet of the season and they punctuated Senior Day with a 182-118 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday with another complete team effort that they are getting accustomed to. The Lumberjacks claimed the win in the opening relay and coasted to a win past their Western Athletic Conference rival, providing Alex Huff, Alexis Juergens and Caitlin Wright with a successful Senior Day.

Jackson Places Ninth on Platform, Leads NAU on Final Day in Tucson
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona divers wrapped up their weekend at the Arizona Wildcat Diving Invitational with their first appearance on the platform tower this season on Sunday. Junior Chelsea Jackson led the Lumberjacks with a ninth-place finish and was one of three divers in the top 20, concluding a successful trip to Tucson this weekend.

Swim & Dive Posts Commanding 185-115 Victory over Idaho
MOSCOW, Idaho – In a battle between the defending WAC Champion Northern Arizona swimming & diving team and last year's WAC runner-up Idaho, the Lumberjacks posted a dominating effort to claim early season bragging rights between the two conference rivals on Friday, notching a 185-115 dual win at the Vandals' home pool. NAU, led by a pair of top three diving sweeps and a pair of victories by senior Alexis Juergens and freshman Alina Staffeldt, picked up its first dual meet victory of the season.

NAU Athletics Posts 85 Percent Graduation Success Rate
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Northern Arizona Athletics Department posted a school-best 85 percent Graduation Success Rate, as released by the NCAA national office Tuesday. It was the highest of the three state universities, and tied for the best in the Big Sky Conference.

NAU's Chelsea Jackson Earns First WAC Award of Season
DENVER, Colo. – After the first week of competition, junior Chelsea Jackson was named the Western Athletic Conference's Women's Diver of the Week on Tuesday announced by the conference office. Jackson earned her third career diver of the week nod after posting victories on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards in NAU's first dual meet on Saturday at New Mexico.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team won seven of the 14 individual events on Saturday in their dual-season opener, but suffered a 170-130 loss to New Mexico in the Seidler Natatorium. Junior Chelsea Jackson swept the two diving events and freshman Alina Staffeldt captured both butterfly events for the Lumberjacks, as New Mexico returned the favor after NAU won last season's meeting between the two teams.

Gold Edges Blue, 54-50, in Final Intrasquad Scrimmage
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Fresh faces performed well, but it was seniors Alexis Juergens and Caitlin Wright who shined the brightest on Friday in the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team's annual Blue vs. Gold Meet. The two Lumberjack seniors each won two events, but it was Juergens' Gold team who was victorious in the intrasquad meet, holding off the Blue team by a 54-50 score.

Brown Takes Pentathlon Crown, Freshmen Shine in NAU Debuts
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Junior Kendall Brown put together a solid all-around performance to win the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team’s annual Pentathlon on Friday, in the team’s debut showing for the 2014-15 season. The Pentathlon tested the team’s endurance and versatility in the five-event intrasquad meet and also served as a successful debut for the NAU freshmen in their first collegiate racing setting.

NAU Student-Athletes Welcome Incoming Lumberjack Freshmen
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Nearly 200 Northern Arizona student-athletes helped greet the incoming NAU Class of 2018 over the last two days in partnership with Welcome Back Jacks. The student-athletes along with a number of student groups at times battled the rainy Flagstaff weather and volunteered to assist the new freshmen and their families move into their new home for the upcoming school year.

Chelsea Jackson Represents NAU at USA Diving Nationals
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Chelsea Jackson competed at the USA Diving AT&T National Championships on Friday, finishing 29th in the 3-meter springboard preliminary. Although she was unable to advance to the afternoon's semifinals, the experience was invaluable for the Lumberjack diver.

Jackson Qualifies for First USA Diving National Championship
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – It has been a great summer for Northern Arizona diver Chelsea Jackson and the Flagstaff native is hoping for even bigger things next week when she competes at the USA Diving AT&T National Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. Jackson qualified for her first National Championships last month after her shining performance on the 3-meter springboard at the Preliminary Zone D Championships.

Swim & Dive Releases 2014-15 Schedule to Defend WAC Crown
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The 2014 Western Athletic Conference champion Northern Arizona swimming & diving team will begin their quest towards a repeat on Oct. 25 in Albuquerque, N.M. versus New Mexico in the opening dual meet of the 2014-15 schedule. The Lumberjacks will begin the season with three consecutive dual meets on the road in what will be a challenging, yet familiar slate this upcoming season.
