DENVER, Colo. – For the first time in her career, senior Urte Kazakeviciute was named the WAC Swimmer of the Week on Thursday for her dominating performance in Tucson last week. Kazakeiviciute is the second Northern Arizona swimmer to be honored by the conference office and fifth different Lumberjack overall to receive either a Swimmer or Diver of the Week award this season.

Kazakeviciute blistered past her competition in the four-team meet featuring No. 8 Arizona, Oregon State and New Mexico State last Friday winning both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Her two wins were part of NAU's day in which it won five overall events on its way to defeating Oregon State for the second straight year and third time in school history.

The Kaunas, Lithuania native led off her day with a win in the 100 breast, posting a time of 1:03.66. Her next performance was the most impressive though as she ripped through the field with a winning time of 2:16.86. Kazakeviciute's next closest finisher came in at a time of 2:21.05, with Kazakeviciute winning the event by nearly five whole seconds.

The two times were her fastest in-season times of her career and followed her performance against Arizona State prior to the holiday break in which she also won the 100 breast. All of that adds up to her winning three of her last four individual events against Pac-12 competition.

Kazakeviciute will swim in her final home meet of her career next Saturday, Jan. 21 versus Northern Colorado at 11 a.m. in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex. The meet will be Senior Day for not only Kazakeviciute, but also Alexa Geiger and Sara Lenhoff.
