Women’s Tennis Opens Play at New Mexico Fall Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Northern Arizona recorded three singles wins on the opening day of the New Mexico Fall Invitational. Joining the Lumberjacks in a deep field of talent are players from host New Mexico, Arizona, Boise State, Oregon, Texas Tech, UTEP, Wyoming and Division II Western New Mexico.

In the singles main draw, NAU sophomore Malia Wahinepio recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win over Dariya Abdrakhmanova of UTEP. The Lumberjacks also got singles wins from seniors Aimee Oki and Yumi Hasegawa, but the scores of their matches were not reported. In the only reported doubles score for Northern Arizona, seniors Orsi Golovics and Yumi Hasegawa dropped a 9-7 decision to Wyoming's Alexandra Kovacs and Veronica Popovici.

Tournament play continues on Saturday with doubles beginning at 9 a.m.
