LAS VEGAS, Nev. – After picking up victories on day one of the ITA Mountain Regional Championships, senior Alice Pacaut and sophomore Johanna Vang were both back in action for the Northern Arizona women's tennis team on Friday. Vang advanced to the third round after a victory in her first match on day three, but could not get any further while Pacaut dropped a tough three-setter in her second round match.
For her second round match, Pacaut squared off against Julyette Steur of Colorado and got off to a nice start with a first set tiebreak win. However, Steur bounced back quickly and ended the match in three sets after winning the final two sets, 6-7, 6-1, 6-0. Vang had a bit more success in her second round match as she dispatched Lisa Roslanova of New Mexico State, 6-0, 7-5, to advance to the round of 32. There, Vang met Nevada's Emma Verberne as she looked to move on to the round of 16, but Verberne pulled out a 6-4, 6-4, victory to send Vang into the back draw.
Play will resume on Saturday beginning with two rounds of the doubles main draw. Vang will look to bounce back from her singles loss when she takes the court with sophomore Hannah Stone for their third round doubles match against UNLV's Aleksandra Josifoska and Iren Kotseva. With a win, the Lumberjack duo will advance to the quarterfinal round, also scheduled for tomorrow.
Also on tap for Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is a round of main draw singles as well as both singles and doubles back draw matches giving all players an opportunity to compete. Pacaut and senior Malia Wahinepio will compete in the doubles back draw and are also slated along with Vang and Stone to play in the singles back draw.
