FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After snapping its seven-match losing streak last weekend in Washington, the Northern Arizona women's tennis team will look to carry that momentum into Saturday's crucial Big Sky matchup against North Dakota in Flagstaff.
Coach Bruno Quote of the Week
"This is a crucial week for NAU women's tennis. We have two home conference matches with both teams currently ranked higher than us in the Big Sky standings. It will be important for us to bring our best tennis and use our home court advantage."
Vang Earns Player of the Week Honors
After going 6-0 last weekend and ending the Northern Arizona women's tennis losing skid, the Lumberjacks Johanna Vang was named this week's Big Sky Player of the Week. The native of Sweden went 2-0 against Western Michigan to start out the week and then Vang played great tennis when the Lumberjacks traveled to the Pacific Northwest facing Gonzaga and Eastern Washington. Vang was able to win at the No. 1 spot against No. 75 nationally ranked Gonzaga and Vang closed out the weekend with two big wins at Eastern Washington to give the Lumberjacks their second Big Sky win of the season.
Despite the Lumberjacks having a tough non-conference schedule, Northern Arizona currently sits in fourth place in the Big Sky standings with a 2-1 record. The Lumberjacks have wins this season over Montana State and Eastern Washington. Saturday's opponent for Northern Arizona, North Dakota, was picked to finish last in the Big Sky Conference but has had a great start to the season and currently stand right in front of Northern Arizona in the Big Sky standings at third place.
