OGDEN, Utah – In her second season of action for Northern Arizona University women's tennis, Blanka Szavay was named the Big Sky Player of the Week today, February 22. Szavay is a senior from Soltvadkert, Hungary and the first Lumberjack to claim the honor this season. She has garnered quite a reputation as a Lumberjack going into this season 16-8 in singles overall and 14-4 in doubles overall. She has only dropped a combined three losses in the Big Sky in singles and doubles.
"Blanka [Szavay] led her team to victory this weekend and has shown leadership throughout the season," Director of Tennis Ki Kroll said. "She is a very hard worker and I am proud of her work ethic."
Szavay is leading the Lumberjacks in wins so far this season, going undefeated in No. 3 singles at 4-0. She has paired with Hanneke Lodewijks to go 1-0 and No. 18 Chiara Tomasetti to go 2-1 in doubles. Over the weekend, Szavay had two win-clinching performances over last season's co-regular season champions Sac State and non-conference opponent San Francisco. She defeated Sac State's Andie Mouzes 7-5, 6-4 and San Francisco's Genevieve McCloskey 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
