OGDEN, Utah — For the first time this season, the NAU Women's Tennis team is home to a nationally ranked doubles pair. No. 18 regionally ranked freshman Chiara Tomasetti and senior Blanka Szavay are now ranked No. 63 in the nation in doubles and are currently the only nationally ranked Big Sky pair so far this season.
"I'm really proud we have a nationally ranked doubles pair representing our team," Director of Tennis Ki Kroll said. "It is a testament to how hard the women have been working and how much we have improved in doubles this season."
Since the beginning of season, Kroll and the Lumberjacks have aimed to be more aggressive in doubles and improve over last season's 36 total doubles wins record. This season, the Lumberjacks have a total 35 doubles wins so far and are undefeated in conference at 16-0. Tomasetti and Szavay have garnered 12 wins overall, including an impressive 6-4 win over No. 44 nationally ranked ASU pair Alexandra Osborne and Nicole Huergo. With four matches left before the conference tournament, the Lumberjacks are sure to surpass last season's record.
This weekend, the Lumberjacks will host Idaho Sunday, April 9. The match will be held at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex at 10 a.m. and is free for all who attend.
