Tomasetti Named ITA Mountain Region Rookie of the Year

TEMPE, Ariz. – Freshman Chiara Tomasetti was named the ITA Women's Division I Mountain Rookie of the Year May 15 after being regionally ranked No. 18 throughout the season. The ITA released nine honors per region including Coach of the Year, Player to Watch, Rookie of the Year and more. Tomasetti is the only athlete from the Big Sky Conference to receive an honor from the ITA this season.

Tomasetti finished her first season with the blue and gold, garnering multiple accolades including 2017 Big Sky Freshman of the Year. Tomasetti finished 19-2 overall and 10-1 in the Big Sky in singles, after playing at the No. 2 position. She led the Lumberjacks with the highest number of singles wins this season including two match-clinching wins.

In doubles, Tomasetti was paired with Blanka Szavay to lead the 'Jacks with 13 wins, including a 6-3 win over No. 44 nationally ranked ASU pair Alexandra Osborne and Nicole Fossa-Huergo. The duo were nationally ranked No. 63 this season, after dropping only one conference loss at the No. 1 position. The NAU pair went 15-4 overall and 9-1 in the Big Sky.

Tomasetti has truly made an impact as a Lumberjack and will return next season with a little more experience on a back-to-back defending Big Sky Regular Season Championship team. The full list of honors can be found here
