  • Four Lumberjacks Earn NSCA All-American Awards

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) has awarded four Lumberjacks with their annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year awards.
  • 47 Student-Athletes to Participate in Spring Commencement

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-seven NAU student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this Friday and Saturday as part of the spring 2013 commencement ceremonies. In addition to the 13 student-athletes who earned their degrees at the conclusion of the fall 2012 semester, the Lumberjack athletics department produced 60 total graduates during the 2012-13 academic year.
  • Volleyball to Close Spring Hosting Yavapai College Friday

  • National Girls and Women in Sports Day Event a Success

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The first National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) event hosted by the Northern Arizona University athletics department was a hit with the Flagstaff community on Saturday, February 23. More than 50 local elementary and junior high school girls participated in the event held at the Rolle Activity Center on the NAU campus that culminated in their participation in a halftime ceremony at the women’s basketball game.
  • Big Sky Honors 41 NAU Student-Athletes as Fall All-Academic

    OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona football, volleyball, soccer and men's and women's cross country teams placed a total of 41 student-athletes on the fall 2012 Big Sky All-Academic Teams as recognized by the conference office. The 41 honorees were part of a department-strong 3.12 cumulative GPA posted by its more than 300 student-athletes during the fall semester.

    GREELEY, Colo. – Freshman Janae Vander Ploeg had a match-high 16 kills on a .405 hitting percentage while adding nine digs and NAU outhit Montana State .245-.103 to record a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-17) sweep in the first quarterfinal match at the Banner Health NCMC Big Sky Volleyball Championship.
  • Volleyball Outlasted by Idaho State in Big Sky Semifinal, 3-1

    GREELEY, Colo. – The NAU volleyball team won the first set before Idaho State took set two and won sets three and four in extra points for a 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 26-24, 29-27) win in the semifinal round of the Banner Health NCMC Big Sky Volleyball Championship.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU volleyball team (22-5, 14-4 Big Sky) will close its regular season on its home floor this week, first hosting North Dakota (15-14, 10-8 Big Sky) at 6 p.m. Thursday in Rolle Activity Center. The Lumberjacks stand in third place in the Big Sky while North Dakota is fifth and NAU’s opponent on Saturday, Northern Colorado (19-10, 12-6 Big Sky), is fourth as the three teams fight for seeding in the Big Sky Championship.
  • Volleyball Battles Montana State for Five Set Road Win

    BOZEMAN, Mont. - After NAU took a 2-0 lead Montana State rallied to force a fifth set and withstood six match points in the fifth before the Lumberjacks were able to complete a 3-2 (25-23, 25-15, 13-25, 19-25, 19-17) win on Saturday night in Bozeman.
  • Volleyball Scores Easy Sweep of Montana in Missoula

    MISSOULA, Mont. – NAU outhit Montana .267 to .100 and got double-doubles from sophomore Kalee Kirby and freshman Janae Vander Ploeg in an easy 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-18) sweep on Friday night in snowy Missoula, Mont. The Lumberjacks swept the Grizzlies in both meeting between the teams this season and improved to 13-4 in the Big Sky and 21-5 overall, equaling the 1982 team for the second most wins in a season in program history.
  • Volleyball to Close Regular Season Road Slate in Montana

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – With the Big Sky Championship just two weeks away the NAU volleyball team (20-5, 12-4 Big Sky) will play its final road matches of the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday at Montana (6-19, 4-12 Big Sky) and at 7 p.m. Saturday at Montana State (14-10, 8-8 Big Sky). The Lumberjacks sit in third place in the Big Sky and can tie the program record for most road wins in a season with a pair of victories this weekend.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Senior Kelli Dallmann had a match-high 13 kills and NAU outhit Portland State .231 to .104, holding the conference-leading Vikings to sub-.100 hitting percentages in three of four sets, to record a 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 25-16) win on Saturday night in Rolle Activity Center. NAU ended a 16-match losing streak against PSU dating back to 2004 and dropped the Vikings to 14-2 in the Big Sky while improving its conference mark to 12-4.

The Lumberjacks are 6-0 at home this season and can secure a postseason berth on Thursday as well as just their third 20-win season in program history and the first since 1991.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Freshman Janae Vander Ploeg totaled 17 kills on a .395 hitting percentage and NAU hit .333 as a team in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-22) sweep of Southern Utah on Monday night in Rolle Activity Center. The Lumberjacks are 6-0 at home this season and improved to 19-4 overall and 11-3 in the Big Sky to move within one win of clinching a berth in the Big Sky Championship.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU volleyball team (18-4, 10-3 BSC) will host three matches over a six day span this coming week starting at 7 p.m. Monday vs. Southern Utah (9-16, 5-8 BSC) in Rolle Activity Center. The three home matches represent the longest homestand of the season for the Lumberjacks, who will play five of their seven remaining regular season matches in Flagstaff.
  • Sacramento State Stages Dramatic Comeback, Tops Volleyball 3-2

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After NAU took a 2-0 lead, Sacramento State rallied back to take the third and fourth sets and win the deciding fifth set 15-12 to score a 3-2 (20-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-12) win on Saturday in Sacramento. Several NAU players totaled career bests in the match as the Lumberjacks moved to 10-3 in the Big Sky and 18-4 overall and the Hornets improved to 5-9 in conference and 9-15 on the season.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU Volleyball team (18-3, 10-2 BSC) takes a seven match winning streak into a stretch of four matches in eight days, starting at Sacramento State (8-15, 4-9 BSC) at 1 p.m. Saturday. After a week off NAU plays one road match before hosting Southern Utah on Monday and two more Big Sky home matches next Thursday and Saturday looking to keep pace atop the conference standings.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU recorded 17 blocks and held Idaho State, which began the night leading the Big Sky with a .252 season hitting percentage, to a .139 mark to score a 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21) win over the on Saturday night in Rolle Activity Center. The Lumberjacks avenged their loss to the Bengals in Pocatello earlier this season and moved into a tie with ISU for second in the Big Sky at 10-2 in conference play and 18-3 overall.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Winners of six straight matches and nine of their last 10 contests, the NAU volleyball team (17-3, 9-2 BSC) looks to continue its ascent to the top of the Big Sky when it hosts league-leading Idaho State (16-4, 10-1 BSC) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Rolle Activity Center. The Bengals, tied with Portland State for first place in the conference, handed NAU one of its two Big Sky losses to open conference play on Sept. 14 in Pocatello.
  • Volleyball Outlasts Weber State in Five Sets, 3-2

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After Weber State narrowly toped NAU in sets one and three to take a 2-1 lead, the Lumberjacks held the Wildcats to negative hitting percentages in the fourth and fifth sets to rally for a 3-2 (27-29, 25-14, 21-25, 25-13, 15-4) win in a back-and-forth contest on Thursday night in Rolle Activity Center. Playing in its first five set match of the year, NAU improved to 9-2 in the Big Sky and 17-3 overall as Weber State moved to 8-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Boasting an 8-2 record through the first half of Big Sky conference play and winners of five consecutive matches, Northern Arizona (16-3, 8-2 BSC) opens a stretch of five of the its next six matches at home at 7 p.m. Thursday vs Weber State (8-13, 2-8 BSC) in Rolle Activity Center. The Lumberjacks are in third place in the Big Sky and are just one win behind the conference leaders with seven of their final 10 regular season matches to be played in Flagstaff.
