In addition to the 13 student-athletes who earned their degrees at the conclusion of the fall 2012 semester, the Lumberjack athletics department produced 60 total graduates during the 2012-13 academic year.

    National Girls and Women in Sports Day Event a Success FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The first National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) event hosted by the Northern Arizona University athletics department was a hit with the Flagstaff community on Saturday, February 23. More than 50 local elementary and junior high school girls participated in the event held at the Rolle Activity Center on the NAU campus that culminated in their participation in a halftime ceremony at the women’s basketball game.

    Big Sky Honors 41 NAU Student-Athletes as Fall All-Academic OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona football, volleyball, soccer and men's and women's cross country teams placed a total of 41 student-athletes on the fall 2012 Big Sky All-Academic Teams as recognized by the conference office. The 41 honorees were part of a department-strong 3.12 cumulative GPA posted by its more than 300 student-athletes during the fall semester.

    Volleyball Scores Easy Sweep of Montana in Missoula MISSOULA, Mont. – NAU outhit Montana .267 to .100 and got double-doubles from sophomore Kalee Kirby and freshman Janae Vander Ploeg in an easy 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-18) sweep on Friday night in snowy Missoula, Mont. The Lumberjacks swept the Grizzlies in both meeting between the teams this season and improved to 13-4 in the Big Sky and 21-5 overall, equaling the 1982 team for the second most wins in a season in program history.

The Lumberjacks sit in third place in the Big Sky and can tie the program record for most road wins in a season with a pair of victories this weekend.

NAU ended a 16-match losing streak against PSU dating back to 2004 and dropped the Vikings to 14-2 in the Big Sky while improving its conference mark to 12-4.

Several NAU players totaled career bests in the match as the Lumberjacks moved to 10-3 in the Big Sky and 18-4 overall and the Hornets improved to 5-9 in conference and 9-15 on the season.

Playing in its first five set match of the year, NAU improved to 9-2 in the Big Sky and 17-3 overall as Weber State moved to 8-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play.

The Lumberjacks won their fifth consecutive match with their eighth win in the last nine matches to improve to 8-2 in the Big Sky and 16-3 overall, already the program’s most wins in a season since 2001.

NAU moved into sole possession of third place in the conference at 7-2 in the Big Sky and 15-3 overall as the Bears moved to 6-3 in the Big Sky and 13-5 on the season.

NAU makes its longest road trip of the season, in terms of distance, and begins the week tied with Northern Colorado, the two-time defending Big Sky champion, for third place in the conference.

The Lumberjacks also tied for the second best hitting percentage in a match in program history at .471 to improve to 6-2 in the Big Sky and 14-3 overall while Montana dropped to 3-14 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Senior Kelli Dallmann and freshman Janae Vander Ploeg each had 10 kills and the Lumberjacks held the Bobcats to a .084 hitting percentage to improve to 5-2 in the Big Sky and 13-3 overall while Montana State dropped to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Thursday's match will be the first of six televised home matches and will air live on Fox Sports Arizona, Fox College Sports Pacific, and NAU-TV.

Senior Kelli Dallmann led the Lumberjacks with 16 kills and 13 digs as NAU won its second of three road matches over the last five days and improved to 12-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Sky while the Eagles remained winless in 2012 at 0-17 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

NAU was swept for the first time this season and moved to 3-2 in conference play and 11-3 overall as Portland State stayed perfect n the Big Sky at 5-0 and 9-7 overall.
