Four Lumberjacks Earn NSCA All-American Awards
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) has awarded four Lumberjacks with their annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year awards.

47 Student-Athletes to Participate in Spring Commencement
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-seven NAU student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this Friday and Saturday as part of the spring 2013 commencement ceremonies. In addition to the 13 student-athletes who earned their degrees at the conclusion of the fall 2012 semester, the Lumberjack athletics department produced 60 total graduates during the 2012-13 academic year.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day Event a Success
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The first National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) event hosted by the Northern Arizona University athletics department was a hit with the Flagstaff community on Saturday, February 23. More than 50 local elementary and junior high school girls participated in the event held at the Rolle Activity Center on the NAU campus that culminated in their participation in a halftime ceremony at the women’s basketball game.

Big Sky Honors 41 NAU Student-Athletes as Fall All-Academic
OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona football, volleyball, soccer and men's and women's cross country teams placed a total of 41 student-athletes on the fall 2012 Big Sky All-Academic Teams as recognized by the conference office. The 41 honorees were part of a department-strong 3.12 cumulative GPA posted by its more than 300 student-athletes during the fall semester.

Volleyball Scores Easy Sweep of Montana in Missoula
MISSOULA, Mont. – NAU outhit Montana .267 to .100 and got double-doubles from sophomore Kalee Kirby and freshman Janae Vander Ploeg in an easy 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-18) sweep on Friday night in snowy Missoula, Mont. The Lumberjacks swept the Grizzlies in both meeting between the teams this season and improved to 13-4 in the Big Sky and 21-5 overall, equaling the 1982 team for the second most wins in a season in program history.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – With the Big Sky Championship just two weeks away the NAU volleyball team (20-5, 12-4 Big Sky) will play its final road matches of the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday at Montana (6-19, 4-12 Big Sky) and at 7 p.m. Saturday at Montana State (14-10, 8-8 Big Sky). FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Senior Kelli Dallmann had a match-high 13 kills and NAU outhit Portland State .231 to .104, holding the conference-leading Vikings to sub-.100 hitting percentages in three of four sets, to record a 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 25-16) win on Saturday night in Rolle Activity Center. NAU ended a 16-match losing streak against PSU dating back to 2004 and dropped the Vikings to 14-2 in the Big Sky while improving its conference mark to 12-4.

Sacramento State Stages Dramatic Comeback, Tops Volleyball 3-2
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After NAU took a 2-0 lead, Sacramento State rallied back to take the third and fourth sets and win the deciding fifth set 15-12 to score a 3-2 (20-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-12) win on Saturday in Sacramento. Several NAU players totaled career bests in the match as the Lumberjacks moved to 10-3 in the Big Sky and 18-4 overall and the Hornets improved to 5-9 in conference and 9-15 on the season.

Kirby Named Big Sky Volleyball Player of the Week

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU broke the program record for fewest points allowed in a match as Montana totaled just 39 points in a 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-20) Lumberjack sweep on Saturday night in Rolle Activity Center. The Lumberjacks also tied for the second best hitting percentage in a match in program history at .471 to improve to 6-2 in the Big Sky and 14-3 overall while Montana dropped to 3-14 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Having played 14 of its first 15 matches of the 2012 season away from Flagstaff, the NAU volleyball team (12-3, 4-2 BSC) plays the first of nine home dates in its final 14 matches of the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday vs. Montana State (10-4, 4-2 BSC). Thursday's match will be the first of six televised home matches and will air live on Fox Sports Arizona, Fox College Sports Pacific, and NAU-TV.

CHENEY, Wash. – After taking a 2-0 lead NAU had to fend off a strong rally from Eastern Washington for a hard fought 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 28-30, 28-26) win over the Eagles on Friday night in Cheney, Wash. Senior Kelli Dallmann led the Lumberjacks with 16 kills and 13 digs as NAU won its second of three road matches over the last five days and improved to 12-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Sky while the Eagles remained winless in 2012 at 0-17 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Gott Breaks Digs Record, Volleyball Defeated by Portland State
PORTLAND, Ore. - Senior libero Anna Gott became the all-time career digs leader in NAU volleyball history midway through the third set but Portland State narrowly topped the Lumberjacks in the first set and claimed the second and third sets for a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) win on Thursday in Portland. NAU was swept for the first time this season and moved to 3-2 in conference play and 11-3 overall as Portland State stayed perfect n the Big Sky at 5-0 and 9-7 overall.

The Bengals improved to 7-3 overall while the Lumberjacks moved to 8-2 on the season.

Voice of Lumberjack Volleyball to be Enshrined in Hall of Fame
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The familiar voice at NAU volleyball matches since 1993, longtime NAU employee Dug Tryon is the 2012 recipient of the Athletics Contributor Award and has earned induction into the NAU Athletics Hall of Fame. A member of the Northern Arizona University staff from 1983 to 2012, Tryon has served as the public address announcer at more than 220 NAU volleyball matches over nearly 20 years.

Kemper helped lead NAU to a 2-1 mark over the weekend at the Molten Classic Presented by Hilton Garden Inn as the Lumberjacks defeated UC Riverside and Penn and lost to Cal.

Volleyball Sweeps UC Riverside to open Molten Classic, Moves to 7-0
BERKELEY, Calif. – Sophomore Sydney Kemper hit .571 with nine kills and six blocks and senior Kelli Dallmann and freshman Janae Vander Ploeg totaled double-digit kills to lead NAU to a 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-19) sweep of UC Riverside to open play at the Molten Classic Presented by Hilton Garden Inn. The Lumberjacks improved to 7-0 and extended their nonconference winning streak to 16 matches while UC Riverside moved to 3-4.

Volleyball to Face National Power Cal, Two Others at Molten Classic
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU volleyball team (6-0) will look to complete another undefeated nonconference season this weekend at the Molten Classic Presented by Hilton Garden Inn in Berkeley, Calif. The Lumberjacks will face UC Riverside (3-3) at 5 p.m. Friday followed by Penn (2-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday and host Cal (2-3) at 7 p.m. NAU has won five consecutive tournaments and 15 consecutive non-conference matches dating back to last season.

Return of Big Sky TV Announced by Big Sky and America ONE Sports
OGDEN, Utah - The Big Sky Conference and America ONE Sports recently agreed to a three-year contract extension, allowing fans and alumni to enjoy free video streams of most football, volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball games held in Big Sky venues. The new contract also calls for events to be available through iOS and Android mobile devices free of charge.

BOULDER, Colo. - After rallying for a highly competitive 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19) win to open play on Saturday vs host Colorado, NAU cruised to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-17) sweep of Cornell to go 3-0 for the weekend and win the Omni Hotels Colorado Volleyball Classic. Volleyball Defeats Fresno State 3-1 to open Colorado Tournament
BOULDER, Colo. – Senior Kelli Dallmann continued her torrid start to the season with a career-high 21 kills and 12 digs as NAU rallied from a first set loss to top Fresno State, 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21), to open play at the Omni Hotels Colorado Volleyball Classic. NAU improved to 4-0 and has won 13 consecutive nonconference matches dating back to last season while Fresno State, which swept Cornell earlier in the day, dropped to 3-2.

Volleyball’s Dallmann Named Co-Big Sky Player of the Week
OGDEN, Utah – After hitting .366 and averaging 4.00 kills per set to lead NAU to a championship in the UNLV Invitational, senior outside hitter Kelli Dallmann has been named the Co-Big Sky Player of the Week. Dallmann, playing her first matches as a full time outside hitter after serving as NAU’s primary setter the last three seasons, shared the award with Northern Colorado’s Marissa Hughes.

Volleyball to Play for UNLV Invite Title after 3-1 Win Over Bakersfield

Volleyball Upends Host UNLV 3-1 to win UNLV Invitational
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Senior Kelli Dallmann had a career-high 19 kills and NAU hit .357 as a team and .533 in the deciding fourth set to get past UNLV 3-1 (25-15, 27-25, 20-25, 25-15) to move to 3-0 on the season and win the UNLV Invitational. Dallmann was named the MVP of the tournament while sophomore Sydney Kemper and freshman Janae Vander Ploeg were also named to the All-Tournament team.

Volleyball Opens 2012 with 3-0 Sweep of The Citadel in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – NAU hit .369 as a team and held The Citadel to a -.036 hitting percentage in a dominant 3-0 win (25-9, 25-14, 25-18) in the opening match of the 2012 season and the UNLV Invitational Friday in Las Vegas. Senior Kelli Dallmann, playing her first match at outside hitter after serving as NAU’s primary setter during her first three collegiate seasons, hit .321 with a match-high 13 kills to lead the Lumberjacks to the easy win.

Volleyball Team Volunteers at St. Mary’s Food Bank
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU volleyball team spent the past Saturday morning constructing food boxes for those in need at the St. Mary’s Food Bank. The Lumberjack student-athletes volunteered their time to build and fill approximately 700 boxes of food for distribution throughout Flagstaff and northern Arizona.

Volleyball Picked Eighth in Preseason Big Sky Coaches Poll
OGDEN, Utah – Coming off a seventh-place conference finish in 2011, the NAU volleyball team has been picked to finish eighth out of 11 teams in the newly expanded Big Sky by the conference coaches. Defending conference champion Northern Colorado was picked first and garnered nine of 11 first place votes in the preseason poll.

Volleyball Earns Fourth Straight AVCA Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the fourth consecutive year, the NAU volleyball team has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with the Team Academic Award. The Lumberjacks totaled a 3.46 cumulative GPA during the 2011-12 academic year, including a program-record 3.64 team GPA during the fall 2011 semester.

Volleyball Coaches Compete at USA Volleyball National Championships
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – NAU volleyball assistant coach Megan Greene and volunteer assistant John Napier recently competed at the USA Volleyball Adult National Championships in Salt Lake City. Greene, competing in the event for the third consecutive year, earned a silver medal with her team 805/Shots in the A division while Napier placed third for the second consecutive year in the 45 age division.

Volleyball Announces 2012 Season Schedule
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Road matches at Pac-12 perennial power Cal and Colorado and a 20-match conference slate in the newly expanded Big Sky highlight the 2012 schedule for the NAU volleyball team. With three road non-conference tournaments and five of their first six Big Sky matches on the road, NAU will play 14 of its first 15 matches of the year away from Flagstaff.
