FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU volleyball sophomore middle blocker Sydney Kemper has been named Co-Big Sky Player of the Week, sharing the award with Idaho State's Lori Mendenhall. Kemper helped lead NAU to a 2-1 mark over the weekend at the Molten Classic Presented by Hilton Garden Inn as the Lumberjacks defeated UC Riverside and Penn and lost to Cal.
Kemper averaged 2.55 kills and 1.18 blocks per set while hitting .351 in NAU's three matches in Berkeley, Calif. Kemper leads the Big Sky with a .384 hitting percentage for the season and ranks fifth in the conference with 1.12 blocks per set. An All-Big Sky honorable mention selection last season, the weekly honor is the first such award in Kemper's career and the second for NAU this season after senior Kelli Dallmann earned the award on Aug. 27.
After posting a Big Sky-best 8-1 nonconference record, NAU will open conference play at 6 p.m. Friday at Idaho State.
