FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona volleyball and head coach Ken Murphy announced the 2013 schedule today. The Lumberjacks will play a total of 13 home matches, including hosting the Fiesta Bowl Tournament in early September.
The Lumberjacks recorded an eight-game win streak which led to a 24-7 overall record in 2012, including a 15-5 mark in conference play for fourth place in the regular season standings.
"This schedule is loaded with tough matches that will test us a team and help us improve as we move through the season," said Murphy.
Murphy and the Lumberjacks will begin the season Friday, August 30 as they travel to Virginia to compete in The College of William and Mary Tournament. NAU will face Campbell, San Jose State and William & Mary over the course of the two-day tournament.
NAU will then return home to host the Fiesta Bowl Tournament beginning on Friday, Sept. 6. Visiting the J.C. Rolle Activity Center will be San Diego State, Idaho and Cal State Northridge.
"We are really looking forward to our first home matches and the Fiesta Bowl Tournament. All three of the teams we play that weekend are very good and it will be an exciting weekend for our team and our fans," Murphy said.
The Lumberjacks travel to Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday, Sept. 13 to participate in the University of New Mexico Tournament. NAU will play Abilene Christian, Towson and New Mexico.
With three tournaments under their belt, the Lumberjacks return home to open Big Sky play against Idaho State (Sept. 19) and Weber State (Sept. 21). NAU will hit the road for back-to-back Montana matches at Montana State (Oct. 11) and Montana (Oct.12). Northern Colorado (Oct. 17) and North Dakota (Oct. 19) come to Flagstaff to mark the midway point through conference play.
Beginning on Oct. 24, the Lumberjacks will head to Weber State, followed by a match at Idaho State (Oct. 26). NAU will host Sacramento State on Nov. 2, followed by a three-match road swing at Southern Utah (Nov. 4), Eastern Washington (Nov. 7) and Portland State (Nov. 9).
