Lumberjacks Drop in Latest USTFCCCA Polls

NEW ORLEANS, La. – After finishing third overall in the “Blue” race this past weekend at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, the Northern Arizona men’s cross country team slipped three spots down to No. 5 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll.

Moving ahead of the Lumberjacks in the poll is Oregon and Oklahoma State. The Ducks vaulted five spots to land at No. 2 in the rankings after they took the men’s title in the “Blue” race at Pre-Nationals.

The Lumberjacks ran another solid race in Terra Haute this past weekend with junior Jordan Chipangama and sophomore Diego Estrada finishing third and fourth respectively. That marked the third time in three races that the duo had combined for a top-five finish.

After the women’s team finished 14th in the “White” race this past weekend, the squad has dropped out of the national rankings, but are still fifth in the Mountain region. Veronica Pohl led the Lumberjacks with her 16th-place finish overall.

With an off weekend coming up, the Lumberjacks are preparing to defend both of their Big Sky titles in Greeley, Colo., on Oct. 31 at the Big Sky Championships.
