NEW ORLEANS, La. – The USTFCCCA released its weekly regional rankings and this week's rankings come with some changes. Northern Arizona University's women's cross country team improved to being ranked fourth in the Mountain Region and the men dropped to second in the Mountain Region.
The Lumberjack women were able to move up in ranking after an impressive showing at the Cowboy Jamboree. Led by a pair of underclassmen in sophomore Melanie Townsend (third) and freshman Paige Gilchrist (seventh), the Lumberjack women finished third at the Jamboree. The NAU women ran against No. 22 Oklahoma State team as well as an impressive Kentucky team.
The Lumberjack men drop in rank after finishing second at the Cowboy Jamboree behind top ranked Oklahoma State. Futsum Zienasellassie and Brian Shrader led the way for the NAU men finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. The men ran against No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 28 ranked Michigan and reigning national champion Kennedy Kithuka of Texas Tech.
