FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men's and women's cross country teams have announced their schedule for the 2014 season. After a 2013 campaign that saw the Lumberjack men claim second in the nation, and the Lumberjack women finish second in the Big Sky, NAU fans can now see what's in store for 2014.
NAU will open the season at home on Sept. 6, as it hosts the George Kyte Invitational at Buffalo Park.
"It's the only time we typically get to host," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country. Eric Heins. "It'll be good to have friends and family come out to watch both teams compete. It's always an exciting event."
The Lumberjacks will take a two-week break before traveling down the mountain to compete at the Dave Murray Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona. On Oct. 4, NAU will take a trip to the northwest to compete in a meet in Seattle that will be hosted by the University of Washington.
"We typically move around during this weekend, but to stay on the west coast and to be able to go up to Washington will be something different for us."
Another highly competitive meet for the Lumberjacks will be the Adidas Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 17. Last year, the NAU men won the meet by a solid 53 points, defeating the likes of BYU, Portland and host Wisconsin.
The Lumberjacks' "last chance" meet will be the Arizona State Invite on Oct. 24. That meet will give NAU its third in the state of Arizona and another opportunity for Lumberjack fans to cheer on the blue and gold locally.
The University of North Dakota will be the host of this year's Big Sky Conference Championship. The meet will be held on Nov. 11 at the Ray Richards Golf Course.
The NCAA Mountain Regional Championship will be held in Albuquerque, N.M., while Terre Haute, Ind. will once again be the site of the NCAA Cross Country Championship.
