* The Lumberjack men finished the
2012 season with a 6-16 overall record and 2-6 Big Sky mark, but
ended the season on a high-note with a pair of 6-1 victories on the
road at Portland State and Seattle.
* Despite of the season struggles,
the Lumberjacks recorded four of their six wins, as well as one
neutral site victory, on the road against UC Riverside, Northern
Colorado and Utah State to go along with their final two wins of
the season.
* The Lumberjacks earned a
dominating 7-0 win over Western Illinois in their home opener in
Sedona. Senior Ben Lantz, a native of Rockford, Ill., earned
both a singles win and a doubles win in his first career match
against a school from his home state.
* Sophomore Dominic Bermudez had a career-year in his second season
at NAU, leading the team with a 12-9 singles record and a 7-1
record against conference foes. He finished the season with a 9-3
record in his last 12 matches and he had a six-match winning streak
as part of seven wins in an eight-match stretch from March
10-31.
* Junior Shaun
Waters had a strong debut season after spending two seasons at
Middle Tennessee State, playing the majority of the season at the
No. 2 singles spot and compiling a 9-12 record, putting him in a
tie for second on the team with junior Patrick Schimmelbauer for singles victories. Waters
also earned a Big Sky Player of the Week honor after winning five
of his six matches – all three of his singles and two of his
three doubles matches – in a three-match weekend in Las
Vegas, Nev. against No. 73 Ball State, Utah State and UNLV.
* Senior Robin Pezzutto, despite posting a 5-17 record, gave the
Lumberjacks solid play throughout the season as the No. 1 player in
the lineup. Competing against the opposition's top player, Pezzutto
battled his way through the season, which included 10 of his 22
matches going the full distance in three sets.
* Director of Tennis Kim Bruno saw
five of her players receive the department's Golden Eagle
Scholar-Athlete Award, up from three in 2011.
