Swimming and Diving Wins Decisively at WAC Foe Idaho, 146-95
/ November 14, 2008
MOSCOW, Idaho – With wins in
11 of 13 events, the NAU swim and dive team dominated fellow
Western Athletic Conference (WAC) foe Idaho to win by a score of
146-95. Although the Lumberjacks have defeated Idaho the past two
years at home and on the road, this was the most decisive
victory.
NAU's 200 medley relay team started things off right, as
Rachael Foe, T.J. Williams, Renee Rother and Tami Binek swam the
winning time of 1:48.34. Kimber Morelli and Vivian Landeck won the
next two events, the 1,000 freestyle (10:37.27) and 200 freestyle
(1:54.41), respectively.
Elizabeth Brook placed second in the 1,000 free for NAU, swimming
10 seconds faster (10:40.25) than her best-ever non-conference meet
time.
The 50 free was one of NAU's two hiccups in the meet, as
Idaho went one-two-three. But the Lumberjacks came right back to
win the 200 individual medley (Foe in 2:08.53). Taryn Harris was
the lone NAU diver to make the trip, and did her job by winning
both the 1-meter (256.80) and 3-meter (243.68).
Foe won her third event of the day by swimming 52.93 in the 100
freestyle, and Chalene Dirks-Ryan picked up a Lumberjack win in the
200 backstroke in 2:08.97. Kate Schafer and Kristin Jones placed
first and second in the 500 freestyle, and Williams was an
individual winner in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.26).
NAU finished the day with Claire Ferro, Schafer, Danielle Filipp
and Landeck earning a win in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of
7:53.30.
“Our medley relay set the tone, we did great in the next two
events and then things just kept going from there,” said head
coach Andy Johns. “I was really pleased with how we finished
our races, especially some of the longer ones that could have gone
either way without some good finishes. We're excited to swim
again tomorrow.”
The team will stay on the road and will be back in the pool
tomorrow to take on Pac-10 Washington State at 11:00 a.m.
