Soccer's Odorfer Claims Second Big Sky Player of the Week Award
/ September 29, 2008
OGDEN, Utah – Northern
Arizona forward Cee Cee Odorfer was named Offensive Player of the
Week, the Big Sky Conference announced Monday. In an eventful
weekend at the 4th Annual High Altitude Tournament, Odorfer led NAU
soccer to a pair of wins over Central Arkansas and Utah Valley and
recorded the first three-goal game for the Lumberjacks in 11
years.
After wrapping up the non-conference schedule on Sunday, NAU
(6-5-1) enters the Big Sky regular season with its best record in
program history due in large part to Odorfer's stellar play.
The Prescott, Ariz., native leads the Lumberjacks in points (20),
goals (7), assists (6), shots (34), shots on goal (21), and
game-winning goals (2).
“We have a lot of offensive power this year,” Odorfer
said. “It has been a team effort. Everyone is doing a great
job. This is the best offensive team we have had since I have been
here. We have a great group of girls this year.”
Over the last two weekends, the Lumberjacks have amassed a 4-0
record tying a NAU record for consecutive wins in a season. This
past weekend, Odorfer totaled seven points (three goals and one
assist) earning all-tournament team honors and the High Altitude
Tournament MVP award.
In a 5-0 victory over Central Arkansas on Friday, Odorfer recorded
the fourth hat trick in NAU history and tied team records for
points in a game (6) and goals in a game (3) in just 53 minutes on
the field.
During Sunday's 3-1 win over Utah Valley, the junior forward
tallied the game-winning assist, and in the process, broke the NAU
career record for assists, which now sits at 16.
“If I did not have a great team I would not have been able to
do that,” Odorfer said on breaking the record shared by
two-time Big Sky MVP Sierra Cristiano and Kelly Flowers. “I
was able to watch Sierra play and she was a great player. It is
kind of crazy I broke it. Like I said before we have a great team.
We have so many girls who can score in so many different ways. It
is really just a team record.”
The Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week award is the second
selection for Odorfer this season and the third for her career, the
most for any active Lumberjack player.
“It means a lot,” Odorfer said on her second Big Sky
award, the most for any league player this fall. “It is kind
of my award, but really it is for the team. I think it is important
for our whole team to get the recognition. It shows how well we are
doing. Our defense did really well in stopping [Central Arkansas
and Utah Valley's] offenses. They gave us some really good
balls. The team is playing well and we are going to be strong in
conference.”
The Lumberjacks are idle this upcoming weekend opening Big Sky play
on Friday, Oct. 10 against Sacramento State at 7 p.m. at Lumberjack
Stadium.
