Herrick Named Big Sky Co-Offensive Player of the Week

quarterback Michael
Herrick was named the Big Sky Co-Offensive Player of the Week
for his performance in the upset win at Montana State on
Saturday.
Herrick, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound junior from Valencia, Calif.,
completed 30 of 40 passes (75 percent) for 388 yards with one
touchdown and no interceptions in Northern Arizona's 23-10
upset of No. 24 Montana State in Bozeman, Mont. Herrick threw a
14-yard TD pass to Ed Berry with 4:43 to play, giving the
Lumberjacks' a 20-10 lead. The 388 yards was the 13th-best
single-game effort in school history. This is Herrick's first
Player of the Week honor.
Herrick shared the award with Montana wide receiver Marc Mariani.
Weber State defensive tackle Ryan Eastman was named the Defensive
Player of the Week, while Portland State kicker Zach Brown was the
Special Teams Player of the Week.
Mariani, a 6-foot, 185-pound senior from Havre, Mont., caught six
passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns in No. 14 Montana's
35-23 come-from-behind home win over No. 15 Cal Poly. Trailing 10-0
midway through the second quarter, Mariani took a short pass from
Justin Roper and raced 84 yards into the end zone. With 9:03
remaining, Mariani hauled in a 68-yard scoring reception from
Andrew Selle to give UM a 28-17 lead. Mariani averaged 33.3 yards
per catch. This is Mariani's fourth career Player of the Week
Award.
Herrick is the third NAU player to earn Big Sky Player of the Week
honors this season and second player to earn the offensive award
(Alex Henderson).
