Chipangama, Pohl Named Big Sky Cross Country Athletes of the Week
/ October 20, 2009
OGDEN, Utah – Tuesday
afternoon, the Big Sky conference announced that both senior
Veronica Pohl and junior Jordan Chipangama of the Northern Arizona
cross country teams had won its Cross Country Athlete of the Week
awards. The two clinched the conference honor after solid
individual performances this past weekend at the Indiana State
Pre-Nationals Invitational in Terra Haute, Ind.
Chipangama takes home the award after a third place finish in the
men's “Blue” race. The Zambia native ran the
8,000m course in 23:47, three seconds off his season-best mark that
he set at the Cowboy Jamboree earlier this month. His performance
helped the fifth-ranked men's team capture third place behind
No. 2 Oregon and No. 6 Alabama. This is the second time this season
that Chipangama has garnered the award.
Pohl collected her third athlete of the week honor after finishing
16th overall in the women's “White” race at
Pre-Nationals. In the 6,000m event, Pohl finished with a time of
21:03. She helped lead the women's team to a 14th-place
finish in the power-packed field.
The Lumberjacks return to action on Oct. 31 in Greeley, Colo., as
they look to defend their Big Sky titles for the third-consecutive
season.
