LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Freshman Patrick Schimmelbauer was the only Northern Arizona player to win a singles match on Thursday, recording a pair of victories to advance in the singles consolation bracket and lead the Lumberjacks on the second day of the Wilson/ITA Division-I Men's Mountain Regional in Las Vegas.

After going 1-1 on Wednesday to get bumped to the consolation bracket, Schimmelbauer opened Thursday with a 6-2, 6-3 win over New Mexico State's Eduardo Salas. Later, the Lumberjack freshman got by Dave Hintze of Weber State, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the third round of consolation play.

Sophomore Andrew Reiff was the only NAU player still alive in the singles main draw on Thursday, but was defeated by Cassidy Mears of BYU, 6-4, 6-3. He will join Schimmelbauer in representing the Lumberjacks in the consolation third round on Thursday.

The Lumberjacks had a pair of doubles teams still alive in the main draw on Thursday, but the duo of Reiff and sophomore Robin Pezzutto as well as the pair of Freshmen Kevin Taylor and Hugo Ramadier were both defeated. Pezzutto and Reiff rebounded with an 8-6 doubles consolation victory, but the win came at the expense of their teammates Schimmelbauer and junior David Flodberg.

The remaining Lumberjacks will look to stay alive as consolation play continues on Friday in sin city, with Pezzutto and Reif starting the action with a doubles match at 8 a.m.
