Men's Tennis Plays with Tough Field in Rebel Classic Opening Day

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – After all-four Northern Arizona players
lost their initial singles matches, the Lumberjacks rebounded with
a pair of consolation victories on the first day of action at the
Rebel Classic in Las Vegas. Joining NAU and host UNLV in the
weekend tournament are players from Arkansas, Arizona, Cal Poly,
Idaho, Pacific and NAIA member Fresno Pacific. The tournament is
limited to a maximum of four players from each participating
team.
Victorious in Flight One for Northern Arizona was junior David
Flodberg. After dropping an opening round decision to
Pacific's Artem Gramma, Flodberg cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win
over Fresno Pacific's Maxine Adam. NAU freshman Hugo Ramadier
also took a loss in his first-round match in Flight Two, but
bounced back with a 6-1, 6-1 consolation victory over James Harris
of Fresno Pacific.
In doubles play, Flodberg and freshman Patrick Schimmelbauer
battled in an 8-6 defeat to Drew Jacobs and Brian McPhee of Cal
Poly. Ramadier and sophomore Josh Brown also fell by the same
margin in their first-round doubles match.
Action continues in Las Vegas on Saturday, with play resuming at 9
a.m.
