Women's Soccer Nets Two Academic All-District Selections
/ October 31, 2009
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Juniors Kristi Andreassen and Rebekah
Schmidt have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District Women's Soccer Team for District 8, as selected
by CoSida. The honors are the first for both players, as NAU and
Portland State were the only Big Sky squads to have two players
named to the team.
Andreassen is one of only three Big Sky players to be named to the
All-District First Team, as she is joined on the squad by Idaho
State senior Annamarie Hofstetter and Portland State senior
Nathalie Wollmann. A defender and midfielder from Tempe, Ariz.,
Andreassen has a cumulative 4.00 GPA in her Northern Arizona
academic career while majoring in exercise science. She has been
named Big Sky All-Academic twice for her academic achievement. On
the field, she is the only Lumberjack to start every game this
season, leads the team in shots (44) and shots on goal (22) and is
tied for second on the team in goals (4) and points (10) in 2009.
As a First-Team selection, Andreassen will now be placed on the
national ballot for Academic All-American consideration.
Schmidt was named to the All-District Third Team with her 3.98 GPA
in elementary education. The Flagstaff native has also been a
two-time Big Sky All-Academic selection in her first two seasons at
Northern Arizona. She has played in all 18 games with 17 starts
this season as a defender and holding midfielder, contributing one
assist and eight shots offensively while serving as a key member of
the Lumberjack defense.
10 Women's Soccer players were eligible to be nominated for
Academic All-District consideration, as the soccer team has the
highest combined GPA of any Northern Arizona team.
