Women's Tennis Perfect on First Day of UC Irvine Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. – Northern Arizona went 6-0 in singles and
3-0 in doubles to complete a perfect opening day at the UC Irvine
Fall Invitational. The Lumberjacks are joined in the weekend
tournament by host UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Santa Clara, Loyola
Marymount, Santa Clara and Division-II UC San Diego.
In the top singles bracket, NAU junior Orsi Golovics got by
Montana's Rebecca Bran, 6-2, 7-6. Juniors Edit Suhajda and
Yumi Hasegawa both rallied after first-set losses to win in three,
while junior Aimee Oki and freshmen Malia Wahinepio and Nicole
Perez claimed straight-set victories.
Golovics and Wahinepio teamed to whitewash Kimmie Cox and Kacie
Wagner of Santa Clara, 8-0, to highlight doubles play. Oki and
Suhajda recorded an 8-3 victory while Perez and Hasegawa posted an
8-4 win to complete a perfect Friday for the Lumberjacks.
NAU looks to continue its outstanding play on Saturday when play
resumes in Irvine at 9 a.m.
