Men's Team Receives At-Large Bid to NCAA Championships

FLAGSTAFF,
Ariz. – Sunday evening, the No. 4 Northern Arizona
men's cross country team learned that they would be headed to
Terre Haute, Ind., once again to compete in the NCAA Cross Country
Championships. Senior All-American Veronica Pohl also learned that
she earned a spot in the women's championship race because of
her eighth-place finish in the regional race Saturday.
Yesterday in
Albuquerque, N.M., the men's team completed a fourth-place
finish behind the strong effort of junior All-American David
McNeill. The Australian native collected his second-consecutive
first-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships when
he crossed the stripe in a time of 29:51.
Juniors Ben
Ashkettle and Jordan Chipangama joined McNeill on the podium after
the race to receive their All-Region medals for their eighth and
14th place finishes respectively.
Junior Jason
Pedersen (33), sophomores Ahmed Osman (30) and Andrew Belus (38)
and freshman Tim Freriks (79), all ran solid races for the
Lumberjacks Saturday morning.
The
championship races are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 23, with the
men's 10,000m race scheduled for 10:08 a.m. MST, and the
women's 6,000m event at 10:58.
