Swimming and Diving Sweeps WAC Athlete of the Week

DENVER, Colo. – Northern
Arizona swimmer Fi Connell and diver Lana Christensen were selected
Verizon Wireless WAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, the conference
announced on Wednesday. Connell picked up her second weekly honor
this season while Christensen notched her first of 2009-10.
Connell continued her brilliant fall season against Boise State
accounting for four of the six NAU wins facing its second-WAC
opponent of the season. Connell, a freshman from Port Macquarie,
New South Wales, Australia, won three individual events on Friday
and led off the 200-yard medley relay which finished first as
well.
She won the 100-yard backstroke (56.67), 200-yard backstroke
(2:02.41), and 200-yard individual medley (2:08.15) against a team
in Boise State (9-3) that has posted an impressive 6-1 record in
WAC competition this season.
All three times were season-bests for Connell who has made an
immediate impact for the Lumberjacks this season. Connell holds the
fastest time in the WAC in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard
backstroke and second fastest in the 200 individual medley.
Christensen helped keep swimming and diving alive during
competition last Friday against Boise State as NAU lost 185.5-114.5
to the Broncos. Christensen scored 271.90 on the 3-meter picking up
top honors in the event. She has two wins in three meets on the
3-meter. Christensen also picked up some key points with a second
place showing at the 1-meter with a score of 251.40.
