Swimming and Diving Defeated 192-107 by Arizona State, Lumberjacks Wrap up Training in Tempe
Women's Swimming & Diving / December 19, 2009
TEMPE, Ariz. – Northern
Arizona swimming and diving fell 192-107 to Arizona State on
Saturday at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. Rachael Foe and Fi
Connell each picked up wins in the 100 butterfly and 200
backstroke, respectively.
Foe and Connell recorded NAU's two wins with several other
Lumberjacks turning in notable performances. Meredith Egloria
finished second in the 100 freestyle while Kimber Morelli placed
third in the 200 butterfly and Krista Maier finished third in the
500 freestyle
“We had a lot of season bests,” head coach Andy Johns
said. “Our girls swam some of their fastest times of the
year. That is a good sign. I thought we competed well. We had some
girls do some different things, but it is good for us to see what
they could do.”
Taryn Harris finished second on both the 1-meter and 3-meter in the
diving competition.
“On the diving side, four of our six divers are now qualified
for zones,” Johns said. “That is always something we
try and get done before the conference meet. It was a great way to
end a great trip to Tempe.”
The Lumberjacks had been training in Tempe all week and finished up
the holiday trip with Saturday's meet against Arizona State
and New Mexico State, whom the Lumberjacks competed against but did
not score against.
“I was very pleased with everything we were able to
accomplish this week,” said Johns. “Training was great.
I think the meet was a great way to end this little segment.
Everyone is looking forward to getting home and spending time with
the family.”
NAU will resume competition at Arizona on Jan. 8. The Wildcats are
currently ranked No. 2 nationally by CollegeSwimming.com in its
poll released on December 18.
