Nicol Sets Regional Mark in Hammer Throw

TEMPE, Ariz.- Northern Arizona's
Jacob Nicol threw 57.93 meters (190-0) in the men's hammer throw
competition to open the ASU Invitational in Tempe Friday night. The
throw is an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark for the junior, who also
qualified in 2008.
With the throw Nicol becomes the Lumberjacks' second hammer
thrower, and third athlete of the young season to reach a regional
standard. Pascal Tang threw 60.20 meters in the hammer, while
Javier Villarreal threw 18.51 meters in the shot put last week.
Also in Friday's action, sophomore Ian Nunya improved upon his Big
Sky hammer throw mark with a toss of 54.22 meters. Former NAU
student-athlete Georgina Toth won the women's competition
(63.92m).
A full meet schedule remains for Saturday with field events
starting at 10:00 a.m., and track events beginning at 5:00 p.m. at
Sun Angel Stadium.
