Adras Awarded Three-Year Extension at Northern Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona men's basketball coach Mike Adras has been awarded a three-year contract extension through 2012, Athletics Director Jim Fallis announced. The contract was negotiated last May, presented to the Arizona Board of Regents in August and was approved in an ABOR session in January.

“I am delighted with where the program is and the stability it has with the support of Dr. Haeger and Jim Fallis,” said Adras. “It is a great situation to be in. My family and I love being part of Northern Arizona University.”

Adras recently completed his 10th season as head coach of the basketball program and 17th season overall at Northern Arizona. He has posted a 158-136 overall record at NAU, including a 82-68 record in Big Sky Conference play.

'We evaluate our coaches in several areas and Coach Adras has continued to produce a program that has been successful on the court and the classroom,” said Fallis. “We are excited to have him continue to lead our program in the future.”

During his tenure, Adras has led the program into the postseason in eight of his 10 seasons at the helm. The Lumberjacks have earned an NCAA Tournament and NIT berth, played in five Big Sky Conference Championship games and played a style of basketball that has led to record-breaking performances and historical upsets of teams like Arizona State, UCLA and UNLV. He is the second-most winningest coach in school history and ranks fifth in Big Sky history in career wins. In the classroom, 28 Lumberjacks have garnered Big Sky All-Academic honors, the second-best total in the league over the last nine years.

Adras has now graduated 30 of the 35 players who have finished their careers during his tenure, including 13 over the last five seasons. His teams have recorded the seven highest semester GPAs in the history of the program and posted a program-record 3.09 GPA for the spring semester in 2005. Former Lumberjack Kelly Golob was selected for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship under Adras, one of only 11 student-athletes in school history to earn the award.

Adras' contract calls for a base salary of 120,000 annually with additional incentives based on APR scores above 950, winning the Big Sky Conference regular season or postseason tournament titles and wins in the NIT or NCAA Tournaments. The base salary could be adjusted based on the third-highest paid coach in the conference. NAU's multi-year APR was 940 in 2008.
