Track & Field Places Six in NCAA Championships Field

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The
Northern Arizona track and field program will have six
student-athletes competing at the NCAA Championships June 10-13 in
Fayetteville, Ark.
Three Lumberjacks received automatic berths by finishing in the
top five at the NCAA West Regional in Eugene, Ore., last
weekend.
Junior Nell Rojas will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase,
securing her place by finishing fourth in 3000-meter steeplechase
in 10:17.88. She will enter the meet seeded 22nd in the field.
Junior Javier Villarreal threw 18.24m (59-10.25) in the shot put,
while junior David McNeill ran 13:49.77 in the 5000 meters at
Historic Hayward Field to earn automatic berths. McNeill, who
enters the meet with the fourth-fastest time, returns to the
national championship after finishing fourth last year. Villarreal
is seeded 15th overall entering the meet.
Junior Veronica Pohl (5000m) and freshmen Diego Estrada (5000m)
and Ahmed Osman (10,000) made the meet by virtue of times run
during the regular season as announced by the NCAA.
Pohl enters the meet with the 10th-fastest time in the 5000m.
NAU is the only school in the country to place freshmen in both
the 5000m and 10,000m with Osman one of three freshmen to make the
10,000m field and Estrada just one of five freshmen in the 5000m.
