FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - With the NFL season starting a week later this season, the Cardinals' annual trip to Flagstaff for training camp will be a bit shorter.

The Cardinals report to Northern Arizona University July 29, with practice beginning the morning of July 31 – six days later than last year. But the end of camp comes Aug. 20, a day earlier than the end of camp in 2008, shaving a full week off the Cards' time up north.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt will conduct his annual conditioning test July 30. The first practice is at 9:05 a.m. Friday, with a second practice at 3:05 that afternoon. The Cards will have a total of 23 practices all told in Flagstaff, including six instances of “two-a-days.”

The annual “Red and White” practice, which will be preceded with an autograph session, will be Aug. 8 at 11:30 a.m.

Whisenhunt has also scheduled two night practices at Lumberjack Stadium Aug. 5 and 18 beginning at 7:05 p.m.

The Cardinals have a walk-through the morning of Aug. 12 before heading to the airport to travel to Pittsburgh for their preseason opener Aug. 13, a game that will be nationally televised on ESPN. Camp breaks after a morning practice Aug. 20, two days before the team's second preseason game at home against San Diego.

The Cardinals finish the preseason with a home game against Green Bay Aug. 28 and in Denver Sept. 3.

The regular season opens at home when the Cards host San Francisco Sept. 13.

As usual, practices will be held on the grass fields next to the Walkup Skydome. In case of inclement weather, workouts are moved inside the Skydome. Players and coaches are also available for autographs as they come off the field after each practice.
