Women's Tennis Improves Dramatically as UNLV Invitational Concludes

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Northern Arizona won four of five
singles matches to rebound with a strong performance on the final
day of the UNLV Fall Invitational in Las Vegas.
The Lumberjacks got straight-set victories from a pair of freshmen,
including the first collegiate win for Malia Wahinepio in a 6-3,
6-4 decision over Missouri's Ginet Pinero. Fellow freshman
Nicole Perez won for the second-consecutive day as she topped
Maureen Modesto of Missouri, 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Orsi Golovics rebounded from a first-set loss to top
Missouri's Mallory Weber, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. Rounding out the
victorious Lumberjacks was junior Yumi Hasegawa in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0
victory over New Mexico State's Aleksa Costa.
The ladies return to the court, and Las Vegas, for the ITA
Regionals beginning October 14.
