Women's Volleyball / September 05, 2009
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Lexi Sullivan hit .333 for the match
with 10 kills and five digs in Northern Arizona volleyball's
3-0 loss to No. 16 USC at the Galen Center on Saturday. Despite
dropping a 3-0 decision, the Lumberjacks pushed the nationally
ranked Trojans in all three sets.
NAU (2-4) showed its resilience on Saturday battling back from
deficits of eight points in set one and seven in set two to cut the
Trojan lead to two (22-20) and three (23-20), respectively.
The Lumberjacks were up 8-7 in the third set before a USC 12-3 run
changed the momentum. The match finished with scores of 25-20,
25-20, and 25-15.
Sullivan kept the Lumberjacks in the match converting on 10 of 24
attacks with only two errors. The sophomore from Phoenix, Ariz.,
significantly cut down her hitting errors to 3.6 over three matches
as opposed to 10.3 in three matches last weekend at the Bronco
Invitational.
Senior Jana Mays-Robinson recorded 30 assists and Anna Gott posted
15 digs to round out the top performances for NAU.
The Lumberjacks will open their home schedule next weekend at the
2009 Fiesta Bowl Tournament. NAU welcomes in Wyoming, the Citadel,
and Utah State this year.
