COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Northern Arizona diving completed competition on the 1-meter springboard turning in four finishes inside the top 15 at the Air Force Invitational on Friday. Kristy Ardavanis was the top finisher for the Lumberjacks as the freshman from Gilbert, Ariz., earned a fifth place finish.

Ardavanis totaled a score of 250.70 which was less than five points off a top three finish.

“Kristy did a great job,” said diving coach Nikki Huffman. “She was really consistent. She may have been off a little here and there, but for now she did great. She was only a few points from being in the top three.”

Four other Lumberjacks took part in Friday's competition and recorded solid numbers. Megan Collier finished ninth, 236.70 points, Lana Christensen was 11th, 225.55, Cassie Anderson placed 13th, 221.75 points, and Holly Frost was 211.50, 16th place.

“Megan and Lana were up and down,” Huffman said. They had good performances but were a little off. Cassie dove real well and missed just one dive. The same can be said for Holly. She tried some new and harder dives, but had a good day. All in all, they did pretty well. I think we could have picked up some easy points by cleaning up some things but overall I was pleased."

The women will be back in action tomorrow to participate in the 3-meter springboard and platform. All five NAU divers will compete on Saturday.

“I think our juniors Megan and Lana will be better on 3-meter,” said Huffman. “Kristy should be right about where she was performance wise. Cassie and Holly should be better. Overall, I am expecting a little better from everyone.”
