Diving Finishes up at Air Force Invitational
Women's Swimming & Diving / January 30, 2010
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The
Northern Arizona diving team wrapped competition at the Air Force
Invitational on Saturday completing the 3-meter springboard and
platform events. The Lumberjacks two-day performance was their last
at an invitational this season. NAU has one final dual meet
then the WAC Championships in February.
The day opened with 3-meter competition and three Lumberjacks
finished in the top 10 in a field of 28 divers. Lana Christensen
led the Lumberjacks with a fifth place result and score of
270.05.
Kristy Ardavanis finished two positions behind Christensen with a
score of 259.05 and a seventh place finish. Megan Collier scored
250.00 and was right behind Ardavanis with an eighth place finish.
Holly Frost landed 13th, 241.25, overall and Cassie Anderson
rounded out the Lumberjack divers in 23rd place, 212.45.
“On 3-meter, I was really impressed with Lana's
performance,” said diving coach Nikki Huffman. “She was
only a few points from being in second place. It was really tight
from second through fifth. Megan dove really well. She missed one
of her best dives but she did a nice job. Kristy was very
consistent and Holly was a lot more consistent. Cassie was a little
off but she was working some harder dives.”
The women also took part in platform rotating between the 5-meter
and 7-meter. New Mexico's Aubrey Bush, the event winner, was
the only diver to take her entire list of dives to the
10-meter.
The Lumberjacks locked up the ninth through 12th place finishes.
Collier turned in the top performance with a score of 177.05 and a
ninth place result. Christensen was 10th, 175.75, and followed by
Ardavanis in 11th place, 172.40, and Cassie Anderson in 12th place,
171.45. Frost ended up 17th, 144.30.
“On platform, it was great to get the girls up there and
competing,” Huffman said. “It helps to get us ready for
conference. There are definitely a couple of areas we need to work
on there and clean up a bit.”
Next up, the Lumberjacks will rejoin the swimming team in a double
dual meet to close the regular season. NAU will face San Diego and
San Diego State in San Diego, Calif., on Friday, February 5 in a
final tune-up before the WAC Championships on February 24.
