Wahinepio Wins as Women's Tennis Falls to Arizona, 6-1

TUCSON, Ariz. – Freshman Malia Wahinepio claimed a win at
No. 4 singles to account for Northern Arizona's only point as
the Lumberjacks were defeated by Arizona, 6-1, Saturday afternoon
in Tucson. NAU dropped to 1-1 with the loss while Arizona stayed
perfect for the season at 3-0.
Arizona won two of three doubles matches to grab an early lead. NAU
was victorious at No. 2, where junior Aimee Oki and freshman Nicole
Perez claimed a 9-7 win over Arizona's Sarah Landsman and
Claire Rietsch, but UA jumped to a 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, Wahinepio battled Wildcat freshman Alexandrina
Naydenova at No. 4. The NAU freshman from Anthem, Ariz. recorded
her first collegiate dual win as she rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0
(10-8) victory. The Wildcats would win the other five singles
matches in straight sets, though junior Edit Suhajda forced
tiebreaks in both sets in a 7-6, 7-5 loss at No. 3.
The Lumberjacks will be off until Saturday, February 13, when they
will play at Colorado State at 6:00 p.m.
