NAU Swimming and Diving Falls to No. 2 Arizona and Oregon State in Double Dual
Women's Swimming & Diving / January 08, 2010
TUCSON, Ariz. – Northern
Arizona swimming and diving turned in seven season best times and
swept the diving portion of Friday's double dual meet against
No. 2 Arizona and Oregon State at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
The Lumberjacks will host Idaho on Saturday, January 9 at the Wall
Aquatic Center at 11 a.m.
“It is always tough going against Pac-10 opponents,”
said head coach Andy Johns. “We had some girls with season
bests and that is what we are looking for. We have a tough
turnaround to be ready for Idaho but its good preparation for the
end of the year. We are looking forward to being home.”
NAU (1-6) turned in notable performances in swimming, but the
diving team won on both the 1-meter and 3-meter. The Lumberjacks
finished first, third and fourth on both boards. Junior Taryn
Harris finished first on the 3-meter while junior Lana Christensen
placed first on the 1-meter.
“Diving is showing their strength,” Johns said.
“We had an outright victory over Arizona in diving and a
couple victories in swimming against Oregon State. There are lots
of good things to take away from the meet.”
The Lumberjacks dropped to 0-16 all-time against No. 2 Arizona with
a final score of 216-83 on Friday. NAU fell to Oregon State
164.5-97.5 and is now 0-5 all-time against the Beavers.
The Lumberjacks will be back in the pool on Saturday, January 9
against WAC opponent Idaho. NAU holds the series advantage
defeating the Vandals in its three previous meetings.
