FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Senior swimmer Rachael Foe set a pool record in the 100-meter butterfly while totaling four first-place finishes in relays and individual events during Northern Arizona swimming and diving's 173-127 victory over Idaho at the Wall Aquatic Center on Saturday. Freshman diver Kristy Ardavanis won on both the 1-meter and 3-meter in the diving competition.

NAU (2-6, 1-2 WAC) concluded its home schedule with its first home victory after falling to Washington State 149-142 on November 6—the Lumberjacks only other home meet during the 2009-10 season.

NAU got off to a strong start finishing first and second in the 400-meter individual medley  relay to open the meet. The one-two showing set the tone for the rest of the meet as the Lumberjacks would finish with their best result of the year totaling 11 first-place finishes.

“This meet today was a great opportunity for us to race on back-to-back days and Idaho brought out the best in us,” said head coach Andy Johns of the team's performance in two meets less than 24 hours apart. The Lumberjacks were in Tucson on Friday, January 8 competing against No. 2 Arizona and Oregon State.

“We have seen the best and raced against the best and nobody intimidates us when we walk out after facing the teams we have faced,” Johns said. “We only have one more dual meet before the conference championships, but I think we are having a good year. We are committed to the team goal and it has shown.”

Foe turned in her best meet of the season with individual wins in the 100-meter backstroke and 100-meter butterfly. Her time of 1:03.48 broke the pool record that was set in 2008 by Kansas' Ashley Leidigh. Foe also was part of two winning relays in the 400-meter individual medley and 200-meter freestyle.

In addition to Foe's results, four other Lumberjack swimmers recorded wins during Saturday's competition. Sophomore Kristin Jones won the 800-meter freestyle (9:31.47) and 200-meter individual medley (2:29.36). Aside from Foe, she was the only other two-event individual winner for NAU.

Fi Connell, Vivian Landeck, and Kimber Morelli rounded out the other first-place finishes for the Lumberjacks in individual events.

Ardavanis recorded the first victories of her career while sweeping the diving competition. She finished with a scores of 275.55 on the 1-meter and 310.43 on the 3-meter.

“For the most part, all of them did a pretty good job especially freshman Kristi Ardavanis,” said head diving coach Nikki Huffman. “Her warm-up did not look great, but she ended up diving great. For her to get a win is significant especially against some of our tougher divers.”

The diving team will participate in its final invitational at in Colorado Springs, Colo., on January 29 prior to the Lumberjacks final dual meet, a double dual against San Diego and San Diego State on Februray 5. NAU will then prepare for the WAC Championships on February 24.
