Volleyball's Win Streak Snapped by Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern
Arizona volleyball's win streak was halted at two after a 3-0
defeat at Northern Colorado on Saturday. The Lumberjacks fell
by sets of 25-15, 25-21, and 25-21.
NAU (6-8, 2-2 BSC) opened the first
set with a 6-1 run but Northern Colorado (13-4, 4-0 BSC) quickly
answered with five straight points to even the score at 6-6.
The Lumberjacks traded back and forth over the next six points
before the Bears jumped ahead with a 7-0 run. Northern
Colorado limited NAU to only six more points in the set.
The Lumberjacks played Northern
Colorado tight in the second set as neither team led by more than
three till the final points of the set. NAU held a 17-14 lead
but Northern Colorado tied the set at 17-17 and again at 19-19
prior to a 6-2 run to close the set.
In the third set, Northern Colorado
jumped out to an early led and kept NAU from mounting a comeback
holding a six-point cushion for the majority of the final
set.
NAU hit .087 for the match compared
to Northern Colorado who turned in a .277 team hitting
percentage. Sophomore Lauren Campbell
led the Lumberjacks with nine kills and a .261 hitting
percentage. Northern Colorado's Ashley Lichtenberg led all
players with 18 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
The Lumberjacks return home next
weekend hosting Montana and Montana State. NAU plays Montana
on Thursday, October 7 at 7 p.m. and Montana State on Saturday,
October 9 at 7 p.m.
