Flodberg, Ramadier Advance In Rain-Shortened Opening of ITA Regional
/ October 20, 2010
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Senior David Flodberg and
sophomore Hugo Ramadier won first round singles matches as
persistent rain shortened the opening day of the USTA/ITA Mountain
Region Championships to just one round each of singles and doubles.
The NAU doubles team of Ramadier and freshman Bruno Ferreira also won
Wednesday in the regional, which is one of 12 men's ITA regional
tournaments taking place throughout the country.
Flodberg cruised past his first round opponent, Weber State's
Ben Rode, with a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Ramadier was nearly as dominant
in a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kasper Konyves of UNLV. Northern Arizona
sophomore Patrick
Schimmelbauer and freshman Dominic Bermudez each won
the first set of their matches but ended up falling to their
opponents in three sets. The second round of singles was supposed
to take place Wednesday afternoon but was pushed to Thursday due to
multiple rain delays.
In doubles play, Ramadier and Ferreira picked up an 8-6 win over
Charlie Alvarado and Rene Ruegamer of UNLV. The other NAU pairs
were defeated by opponents from Utah, though Bermudez and
Schimmelbauer came close in an 8-5 loss.
Play on Thursday is scheduled to begin with doubles at 9
a.m.
