/ February 07, 2010
GREELEY, Colo. - The Northern
Arizona men's basketball team pushed Northern Colorado to overtime
before falling 70-63 Sunday in the Big Sky Game of the Week.
"I think we gave ourselves an
excellent chance to win on the road again," said Adras. "I am proud
of our guys. I wish we had made enough plays at the end of the
game. We made a bunch of mistakes down the stretch."
Junior Cameron Jones led the
Lumberjacks with 17 points and nine rebounds. DeAngelo Jones
contributed 16 points and Shane Johannsen added 13 points.
Devon Beitzel had 24 points,
including two key three-pointers in the overtime period, and seven
rebounds for the Bears.
"Both of his three-pointers were
big," said Adras. "It went from a two-point lead to a four-point
deficit. He played very well for them in the second half. "
Beitzel scored 21 of his 24 points
in the second half and overtime.
NAU shot 42 percent for the game
but made just 2-od 14 three-point attempts in the game and 11-of-20
free throw attempts. The Bears made seven three-pointers and
21-of-31 free throws in the game.
NAU had a chance to win the
game at the end of regulation but Gabe Rogers three-pointer was off
the front rim at the buzzer. The Lumberjacks scored the first
basket of overtime to go up 58-56 but Beitzel connected on
back-to-back three-pointers and the Lumberjacks never got any
closer.
"Gabe had a wide open shot," said
Adras. "I thought it was a good look. I hope next time he is in
that position he will make that shot."
NAU continues on the road this week
with games at Idaho State and Weber State.
