/ June 14, 2010
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The U.S. Track
& Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)
announced on Monday the 428 student-athletes that will receive
USTFCCCA All-America honors in Division I. The list includes
Northern Arizona senior David McNeill, winner of the 5,000-meter
run, and sophomore Ahmed Osman.
A total of 523 awards will be
presented to the 428 individuals as a result of a national
top-eight finish in this past weekend's NCAA Division I Outdoor
Championships in Eugene, Ore. In addition, the top eight finishing
athletes among U.S. citizens from the NCAA Championships gain
All-America status.
For McNeill, this is his ninth
career All-American award, and fourth this year. He won his first
of the season with a second-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country
Championships. The Australia native then picked up two more at the
NCAA Indoor Championships in March when he won his first career
national title in the 5,000-meter run, and finished runner-up in
the 3,000-meter run the following evening. His latest award came
after he won the outdoor 5K this past weekend at the NCAA Outdoor
championships in Eugene, Ore.
Osman gained All-American status
after finishing 15th overall in the men's 10,000-meter run this
past Thursday at the outdoor championships. This is the second
All-American award for the San Diego native after he won his first
trophy at the 2009 outdoor championships with a ninth-place finish
in the 10K.
The recent accomplishments by the
two gives the NAU track and field program seven All-Americans from
the 2009-2010 season.
