Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Loss to Nevada at the Wolfpack Invitational

RENO, Nev. - Anna Gott posted 26
digs for Northern Arizona volleyball in a 3-1 loss to Nevada at
Virginia Street Gym on Friday in the Lumberjacks first match at the
Wolfpack Invitational. NAU (4-4) lost by sets of 22-25, 25-14,
25-22, and 25-13.
The Lumberjacks played their best
in the opening set taking an early lead over host Nevada, 25-22.
NAU hit .163 in the first set limiting the Wolfpack to a .096
hitting percentage while forcing eight errors.
Nevada (5-2) evened the score at
1-1 hitting a match-high .385 in the second set and used that
momentum in the third and fourth sets preventing NAU from pushing
the match to a fifth set.
Gott turned in her second highest
dig total of the season after posting 28 digs in a five-sets defeat
at the UniWyo Wyoming Invite two weeks ago. She averaged 6.5 digs
per set in the match, the highest dig per set total of the season
for the sophomore libero.
Freshman Niki Small led the
Lumberjacks with a .417 hitting percentage and a team-high eight
kills. Small continued to play well on the road after claiming
all-tournament honors in Wyoming.
The Lumberjacks play Pacific at 5
p.m. at Virginia Street Gym in their second of three matches at the
Wolfpack Invitational. NAU plays No. 24 Arizona on Saturday,
September 11 at noon to close out the tournament. Pacific defeated
No. 24 Arizona, 3-2, in Friday's early match.
