Volleyball Drops 3-0 Match to No. 24 Arizona

RENO, Nev. – Northern Arizona
dropped its third consecutive match at the Nevada Wolfpack
Invitational with a 3-0 loss to No. 24 Arizona at Virginia Street
Gym on Saturday. The Lumberjacks were downed by sets of 25-15,
26-24, and 25-16.
NAU (4-6) hit .156 in the first set
but Arizona (7-2) came out faster hitting a match-high .462 in the
opening set. The Wildcats led wire-to-wire in the first.
The Lumberjacks came back in the
second with a six-point run to tie the match at 16-16 before taking
the lead later in the second set, 23-21. NAU could not close
out the Wildcats who ended the second set on a 5-1 run.
In the third and final set, the
Lumberjacks were down just a point at 11-10 before Arizona once
again quickly opened up a six-point lead and finished the set on a
14-6 run.
Junior Kobi
Christensen and sophomore Lexi Sullivan led
NAU with 11 kills (3.7 kps) a piece. Sullivan hit .308 for the
match while Christensen, last week's Big Sky Player of the Week,
hit .143.
Kelli Dallmann
had her best match of the tournament recording the Lumberjacks'
only double-double. The sophomore setter turned in 28 assists (9.3
aps) and 10 digs (3.3 dps).
The Lumberjacks finished the Nevada
Wolfpack Invitational 0-3 with losses to Nevada, 3-1, and Pacific,
3-0 on Friday, September 10 and the 3-0 loss to No. 24 Arizona on
Saturday, September 11.
With the completion of the Wolfpack
Invitaional, the Lumberjacks now turn to the start of the Big Sky
Conference regular season next weekend. The team travels to Idaho
State and Weber State on Friday, September 17 and Saturday,
September 18, respectively.
