FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Grand
Canyon shot a tournament-best 300 team score to win the 2010 Hilton
Garden Inn Mountain Shootout at Forest Highlands Golf Club on
Tuesday. The Lumberjacks fell back on the final day of the
tournament, finishing third overall after posting a 325 in the
final round.
"We did not compete today," said
Head Coach Brad Bedortha. "Alexa Kim played very
solid and steady today. We have some young players in the lineup.
Hopefully it will be a learning experience for us."
Sophomore Stephanie Kim was
the top finisher for the Lumberjacks in a tie for fourth overall at
seven-over par 171 with a 79 in the second round.
"Stephanie shot a 79 today but I
guarantee she was playing hard all day long," said Bedortha.
"That's all I can ask of my players."
Senior Alexa Kim had the best round
of the day for NAU, recording a three-over par 75 to finish one
stroke back in sixth overall at eight-over par 152.
"Alexa shot a good score today and
had a good tournament," said Bedortha. "We turn right around and
play again next week to prove we can play. We should be able to go
there and compete."
Grand Canyon's Brittany Penny
carded a two-under par 70 to win the individual tile by three
strokes over Arizona's Haley Andreas. Kacy Buckner and Sadie Palmer
of Southern Utah finished third and fourth, respectively.
Freshman Kaitlen Parsons tied for
19th at 164 after an 86 Tuesday. Senior Dakin Whitmer was
24th overall with an 85, while freshman Catherine Benscoter had
an 86 in the final round to tie for 29th overall.
NAU returns to action next week in
Portland at the Rose City Collegiate Women's Golf Tournament hosted
by Portland State and Oregon State at the Langdon Farms Golf Club
in Aurora, Ore.
