Women's Tennis Rebounds with Consolation Wins at UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – After a tough opening day against elite
competition in Las Vegas, the Lumberjacks bounced back on Saturday
with four singles wins and a doubles consolation victory. Weekend
play at the UNLV Fall Invitational will conclude on Sunday.
In consolation singles play, seniors Orsi Golovics and Yumi Hasegawa, who were
playing in the top flight of singles play, both earned straight set
victories on Saturday. Senior Aimee Oki added a 6-2, 6-2 win
over Gabby Phillips of Illinois State while sophomore Alice Walker picked up a
7-6, 7-6 win.
The only NAU doubles team to advance to Saturday in the main
draw was the pair of Hasegawa and Suhajda, but they were downed by
Amanda Craddock and Caroline Larsson of Texas, 8-2, in the Flight 2
semifinals. In a consolation match on Saturday, Oki and sophomore
Nicole Perez earned
an 8-3 win over Carolina Abello and Hannah Esker of Illinois
State.
Championship matches and more consolation play will take place
to conclude the tournament on Sunday.

among its more than 300 student-athletes at the completion of the
spring semester. It marked the 12th semester out of the last
13 overall that the Lumberjack student-athletes have recorded a
3.00 cumulative GPA or higher. Since 1998, NAU student athletes
have earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher in 22 out of 24
semesters.
