AURORA, Ore. – Senior Alexa Kim and
sophomore Stephanie Kim both
carded two-under par rounds of 70 to lead the Northern Arizona
women's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the 2010 Rose City
Collegiate Tuesday at the Langdon Farms Golf Club.
Senior Alexa Kim recorded her two
consecutive 70s after struggling on the first nine holes of the
tournament. She was seven-over par at the turn on the opening 18
holes, finishing the final 45 holes in four-under par to place tied
for fourth with teammate Stephanie Kim at three-over par 219.
"I could not trust my shot and
three-putted four times to start the tournament," said Alexa of her
start. "Coach told me to believe in myself and I started feeling
really comfortable. My shots were working really well and I putted
much better. I told myself to just play and enjoy it. I had fun
playing today."
Stephanie Kim equaled her
teammate's round of 70 in the final round, equaling her opening
round 70 that sandwiched a 79 in the second round on Monday.
Kelsey Kipp of North Texas won a
12-hole playoff over Whitney French of Oregon State to win the
individual medalist honors after tying at one-under par 215.
Hawaii's Kaili Britos was third overall at two-over par 218.
NAU finished fourth overall in the
15-team field at 905 after a final round 295, tying the ninth-best
team round in school history and best of the young season.
"To rebound from the final round
last week one week later to post a 295, I am very happy with the
performance," said Head Coach Brad Bedortha. "We played great
today. Overall, I would rate it an A plus performance."
Freshman Kaitlen Parsons carded a
second consecutive four-over par 77 to finish tied for
31st at 233, while senior Dakin Whitmer had a
78 in the final round to tie for 41st at 235. Freshman
Catherine
Benscoter had an 89 and was 74th overall.
NAU has next week off before
returning to the course at the Price's New Mexico State Collegiate
Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., on Oct. 11.
