Volleyball Beats Rider, Improves to 2-0 at Fiesta Bowl Tournament

FLAGSTAFF, Arizona – Northern
Arizona volleyball defeated Rider, 3-0, in the Lumberjacks first of
two matches on Saturday at the Rolle Activity Center. Junior
Kobi Christensen turned in another breakout performance as the
Lumberjacks moved to 2-0 at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament.
NAU (2-3) set the tone for the
match in the first set opening a 13-1 lead that was later pushed to
20-3 before the Lumberjacks closed the set 25-8. NAU did not
give up more than 15 points to Rider in any set as the Lumberjacks
won the second, 25-14, and third 25-12.
Christensen collected 15 kills (5.0
kps) with a .357 hitting percentage after posting 20 kills (5 kps)
and a .533 hitting percentage in the Lumberjacks' win over
Texas A&M Corpus Christi. She again led all players in
kills and hitting percentage.
The Lumberjacks hit a season-best
.283 for the match and limited Rider (1-2) to a –.191 hitting
percentage. NAU converted 28-of-60 attacks with only 11
errors. Rider hit 16-of-79 with 31 errors.
NAU plays Maryland Eastern Shore
(1-4) in the Fiesta Bowl Tournament finale at 7 p.m. UMES
lost this morning, 3-1, to Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Rider faces Texas A&M Corpus Christi (2-4) at 4:30
p.m.
Through four matches, the
Lumberjacks have the tournament's best record at 2-0.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Rider are 1-1 followed by Maryland
Eastern Shore at 0-2.
