Football's Herrick Receives National Football Foundation's Postgraduate Scholarship

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Michael Herrick has been named one of two recipients of the 2011 postgraduate scholarship presented annually by the Valley of the Sun Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame, Chapter Executive Director Dan Manucci announced. He will receive $1,000 for his future education.
Herrick graduated from NAU with a degree in fire science in December. He finished his career as the all-time career leader in completion percentage (65.0) and yards per attempts (7.5), while placing in the top 10 in several categories including touchdowns (5th, 40), passing yards (5th, 6,460), pass completions (5th, 561) and pass attempts (6th, 863). He had 16 games with 200 or more yards in his career, six games with 300 or more yards and two games of 400 or more yards, throwing for a school-record 574 yards and four touchdowns against Eastern Washington in 2009.
He was a 2009 Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team selection and two time Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete recipient.
Herrick joined Arizona State kicker Thomas Weber as the recipients of the College Scholar Athlete awards in 2011. They join 35 exceptional high school football scholar athletes from among the over 240,000 students, from the 178 high schools, in our Northern and Central Arizona region to be honored at the event.
Herrick also received the NFF Scholar-Athlete Award after his outstanding prep career at Valencia High School. Past recipients of the NFF Scholar-Athlete Award from NAU include Jake Crissup,(1999), Steve Gomez (2002) and Mark Gould (2004).
